In partnership with the Springfield Public Library, Small Steps Big Change hosted an Environmental Awareness Event on Wednesday, August 7th. Due to the rainy weather, the event took place in the Palmer Museum in the library, but still attracted a sizable crowd (about 40 people!). Guest speakers included Melissa Bonissa and Sea Turtle Recovery. Other stations featured volunteers sharing info and tips on plastic, pollinators, coral, and what's in the air. Everyone who visited received a free reusable shopping bag to help them in their sustainability journey. Finally, proceeds from both the bake sale and metal straw sales (a total of $53!!) were donated to Sea Turtle Recovery, a non-profit that rescues and rehabilitates sea turtles along the Jersey shore (check them out at Turtle Back Zoo!). Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered to make this event possible!

Special thanks to Tim Burns for photographing the event!
