This past weekend was filled with demonstrations all over the world as part of the Global Climate Strike. More events will be take place this coming weekend as well. Globally, over a million people flooded the streets, demanding action. This recent movement has been led by the youth, who are blaming governments for stealing their futures by not taking action against climate change. I attended the strike in Richmond, VA on Friday, September 20th with a few friends and hundreds of people from the area. The event was truly empowering and inspired me to never give up on the battle for climate justice. The crowd chanted as we packed the streets of Richmond and marched to City Hall. Upon arrival, a few organizations gave speeches and then everyone participated in a "die-in," in which we symbolized extinction by lying down for five minutes. Though the main part of the event ended after that, the energy that was felt while standing on the steps of City Hall was incredible. It gave me hope that change is actually coming and that the battle will not end until it is won.
